Beyond the Food Bank with Inner East Churches Network

Inner East Churches Network held the second of three events entitled "Beyond the Food Bank" in St Patrick's Church, Ballymacarrett on Wednesday 12 February.

The previous event in East Belfast Mission focussed on food poverty, and this evening the theme was the impact of fuel poverty. Lynda Gould from the NICVA Faith-Based Engagement Programme gave an overview of the facts and figures behind fuel poverty and challenged churches on how and why they should respond.

Daniel Black from Christians Against Poverty shared stories of individuals and families directly impacted by fuel poverty. There was then time to reflect and respond facilitated by Thrive Ireland, with opportunities for support outlined by Barbara Smith from the Scaffolding Project

The series will conclude on Saturday 21 March at Mountpottinger Presbyterian, for a breakfast event focussing examples of effective church/community partnership in supporting families in crisis.

Inner East Churches Network is supported by the Urban Villages Initiative. For more information contact Jonny Currie, Community Development Director, on 028 9045 1512 or email jonny@ebcda.org
