East Belfast Community Development Agency’s Health Development and Connections Programme along with lay health information workers targeted no smoking day on 9^th March at the Enler Centre in Ballybeen with a rather unique event.  The lay workers had undertaken an 8 week programme called Holistic Tips To Quit recently.  They used the general health awareness skills they learned around physical activity, stress, smoking, drugs & alcohol, cancer and nutrition to target no smoking using short mat bowling and Boots Pharmacy.  Over 25 people dropped into the centre and all were made welcome even non bowlers.  Two bowling prizes were awarded and ballot prizes ensured an enjoyable event was had by all.

After forty years smoking tobacco

I’m asthmatic and haven’t a puff

I smell like an ashtray at bedtime

And I know I look almost as rough

But I’ve tried every patch in the country

I’ve chewed gum till my dentures are raw

I’ve had tablets inserted where tablets don’t go

And I’ve supped every potion I saw

How I wish I’d the willpower to stop it
